Mechatronics Engineering roadmap
Mechanical, electrical, control and embedded systems combined.
Start with Mechatronics Foundations, follow the steps in order, then build a project, prepare for interviews and earn your certificate.
Foundations
- Mechatronics Foundations — Sense, think, act. What mechatronic systems are and how they are designed, the digital logic behind controllers, and the sensors that measure position, speed, force and strain.
- Motors, Drives & Power Electronics — Making things move electrically. DC, stepper and brushless machines, modelling the DC motor, actuator and gearbox sizing, MOSFET switches and PWM, H-bridges and motor-drive electronics.
Core skills
- Mechanisms & Fluid Power — Transmitting force and motion. Kinematics, gears, linkages, screws, belts and precision mechanisms, then pressure and fluid power — pneumatic and hydraulic actuation with electro-fluid control.
- Control of Mechatronic Systems — From transfer functions to servo axes. Transfer functions, PID control and practical tuning, and servo motion control with trajectories, cascaded loops and feedforward.
Advanced
- Embedded Control & Automation — Firmware, PLCs and industrial networks. Microcontrollers and real-time control firmware, PLC programming, and the industrial networks that connect drives, sensors and controllers.
- Robotics, Vision & Autonomy — Robots that see and navigate. Robot kinematics and dynamics, machine vision, state estimation with Kalman filters, and autonomous mobile robots with SLAM and path planning.
- Smart Manufacturing — CNC, Industry 4.0 and predictive maintenance. CNC machines as classic mechatronic systems, and the connected factory: IIoT, digital twins, cobots and predictive maintenance.
