Software
The digital tools civil engineers use every day. From drafting to BIM, analysis to scheduling: AutoCAD, STAAD.Pro, ETABS, Revit, Civil 3D and Primavera — what each does, the syntax and workflows behind them, and how to check their results.
- AutoCAD — AutoCAD is the classic 2D drafting (and basic 3D) tool. Learn the interface, coordinate input, draw and modify commands, layers, blocks, dimensions, model vs paper space, scales and plotting, and automating with scripts and AutoLISP.
- STAAD.Pro — STAAD.Pro is a widely used structural analysis and design program. Learn its modelling workflow (nodes, members, properties, supports, loads, combinations), the STAAD input-file syntax, analysis types, design to codes (IS 456/800, AISC, Eurocode) and how to verify results.
- ETABS — ETABS is specialised for building analysis and design. Learn grid- and storey-based modelling, rigid/semi-rigid diaphragms, shells for slabs and walls, auto wind/seismic loads, modal and response spectrum analysis, drift and irregularity checks, and concrete/steel/shear-wall design.
- Revit — Revit is a BIM platform for architecture, structure and MEP. Learn BIM concepts, families and types, levels and views, parametric relationships, schedules and quantities, worksharing, clash detection, LOD, and automation with Dynamo and the Revit API.
- Civil 3D — Civil 3D designs roads, grading, drainage and site works. Learn surfaces (TINs) from survey data, horizontal alignments and vertical profiles, assemblies and corridors, sections and earthwork volumes, pipe networks, grading and plan-production.
- Primavera — Oracle Primavera P6 is the industry-standard project scheduling tool for large projects. Learn EPS/WBS structure, activities and relationships (FS, SS, FF, SF with lags), calendars, constraints, scheduling (critical path, float), resources and costs, baselines, progress updating and earned value.
